USING THE FIGURES - BUYING RECORDED RAMS

EBVs can be used to help you select a ram to suit your needs. Decide what traits you wish to improve - the traits you think will ead to the best returns.

Is it carcase/growth (8 wk wt, Scan Wt, Muscle Depth, Fat Depth) or maternal (Litter Size, Maternal, Mature Wt) ?

As well as looking for rams with good figures for the traits thatare important to you, make sure that the rams you buy have no
serious weaknesses in the other traits.

A look at the performance charts (if available) will give you a good idea of the particular strengths and weaknesses of the rams on offer.

The charts show that the overall Index for each ram is approximately the same but that they have different strengths and weaknesses.
