Background Information

The Scottish Sheep Strategy
is a QMS initiative and is the successor to The Highlands and Islands Sheep Strategy (HISS), which was set up in 1998 by The Blackface Sheep Breeders Association & the North Country Cheviot Sheep Society.

The remit of HISS was to work with the hill and maternal breeds, initially Blackfaces and North Country Cheviots and latterly had incorporated Lleyns and Shetlands.

The Scottish Sheep Strategy has a wider remit than its predecessor in that it is available to all sheep producers and sheep breeds in the country, not just those in the Highlands and Islands area, and it will also encompass more sheep breeding technologies.
